ORLANDO, FLORIDA (Jan. 26, 2006) -- The PGA Merchandise Show
& Convention annually hosts close to 1,000 exhibitors from all over the
world with everything you can imagine that is even remotely related to golf.
This year is no exception. However, in the "Tourism Ireland" section of the
floor, there is a special buzz today because the 2006 Ryder Cup Match is coming
to Ireland for the first time in its 36-year history.
Although ticket sales for this internationally beloved tournament which pits an
All-American Team against a European Team closed in July of 2005, Absolutely
Golf & Travel is pleased to announce that it can still offer Match fans a
top-drawer Ryder Cup package. In an interview with journalist Dave Gardy*, AGT
founder and President Debbie Bussey describes what her program has to offer the
discriminating golf enthusiast: "It's a 7-night program: 3 nights in Newcastle,
County Down which is only 1 ½ hour's drive now with the new motorway, north of
Dublin; 4 nights in the heart of Dublin; 4 days at the Ryder Cup; and 3 rounds
of spectacular golf (at) Royal County Down, Baltray and Ardglass - three links
courses."
In fact, the opportunity to play on Ireland's world-renowned links courses,
shaped as they are by undulating sand dunes and often with dramatic ocean views
as a backdrop, would be enough in itself to entice any die-hard American golfer
to pull out his checkbook. Add a chance to watch the likes of Tiger Woods and
Phil Mickelson play against Henrik Stenson and Colin Montgomerie up close, and
you have defined what in golfers' terminology can only be described as
"Paradise".
Debbie Bussey, who has been booking golf tours to Ireland for 20 years, is
excited that the island country is hosting the Ryder Cup at this time. "The
level of the product in Ireland in recent years has just gone through the
roof", she says. "Accomodations-wise, you have great hotels in every range of
price,. (and) you have excellent cuisine. People used to think of Ireland and
think 'cabbage and potatoes', but you have international cuisine now throughout
the country".
